Intensive Outpatient Treatment: What to Expect

LifeQuest’s IOP consists of weekly sessions with experienced licensed professional, and certified addiction counselors.  Client and counselor work together as a team to set goals and types of treatment, and, family members are included in the process of recovery as well.   Intensive outpatient programs work because they address addiction and alcoholism at fundamental, individual levels.  Because every person uses for a different reason, developing and implementing a program that is client-driven is critical to achieving success.  Intensive outpatient programs are highly successful for people that have already completed detox.  In fact, outpatient programs are often used to help people “step down” from one level of treatment to the next.  Intensive outpatient programs can be very effective for people who recently relapsed and need assistance getting clean again but don’t need the intensity or supervision of a residential inpatient center

We create individualized treatment programs for each patient. The exact outpatient treatment plan differs from patient to patient. Our team of addiction treatment specialists, including physicians, psychologists and social workers, works with each patient during the treatment sessions. Here is a general idea of what you can expect:

  •  Length. Treatment lasts between eight to twelve weeks.
  • Adult treatment. Group Sessions meet three days per week, from 11-1am and 6-8 p.m. We schedule individual and family sessions separately.
  • Adolescent treatment. Sessions meet three afternoons per week. Start times vary. We schedule individual and family sessions separately.
  • Group, individual and family counseling. We schedule these sessions as necessary.
  • Family education. We educate patients and families on treatment progression.
  • Support and resources. We offer many resources to help patients and their loved ones learn to accept addiction, manage cravings and establish sobriety.
  • 12-step meetings. Regular attendance is often a critical part of a patient’s rehabilitation and recovery.
  • Family support. Our family program involves spouses, parents and loved ones in treatment. For adolescents, we require family participation.
